These oversized busts of Marcus Garvey, Frederick Douglass and Shaka Zula were designed by the artist Steven Barter. They stand at about 850x850x530mm in dimension. They were displayed at a pop-up show in lower Manhattan at the Converse showroom, which featured the collaboration between Barriers Streetwear and Converse. The pieces highlight heroes, and reflect Barter’s design concepts and views. With the busts placed at the entry way into the pop-up gallery in lower Manhattan, patrons are welcomed by the historical figures. Notably these figures of African and African American history sought for the abolition of slavery, a freer and equalitarian democratic republic in the colonies (future United States), and represent the warrior spirit!
This celebratory collaboration is between the artist Steven Barter and Converse. The busts stand at about 36x40x55 inches in dimension.
