These large-scale busts of Marcus Garvey, Frederick Douglass and Shaka Zula were designed by the artist Steven Barter. They stand at about 850x850x530mm in dimension and were printed in a single piece. They were displayed at a pop-up show in NYC for a collaboration between Barriers Streetwear and Converse. The pieces highlight heroes and reflected Barter’s design concepts. With the busts placed in the entryway of the pop-up gallery attendees are welcomed by the historical figures. Notably, these figures of African and African American history sought equality, the abolition of slavery, and represent the warrior spirit!
